Updated: My Daily Skincare Routine

DIY Christmas Gift Ideas.png

Hello guys! If you read my last skincare post here then you know this post was in the works! You all voted on Instagram and it was such a close race but that post won to go up first but I promised I would still share my updated skincare routine! Make sure you go and check out that last post for some reference as to why this new routine is so important to me (hello cystic acne get away from me)!

The only thing I do that is not mentioned in this post is use the African Black Soap! I took these images while I was in NYC and did not travel with a giant soap block unfortunately lol (but trust me I totally thought about it I love that stuff!) But that being said enjoy and I hope you find a product or two to add into your routine!

1. Serums

I love two serums and use them both day and night.

The first is Intelligent Elixirs pure squalane. I buy this from Mooi Studio but it can also be found here. I use it to really moisturize my skin (and defiantly because Mooi told me it was good for me!)

The second is from my Box of Style and I have been using it for the past month and a half that I have had it! The Caudalie Vinoperfect Radiance Serum which is for brightening and has some anti-aging properties to it. Also super gentle on my skin!

2. Moisturizers

I have some pretty dry skin and live in such a dry climate so these are the best ones I have tried out!

First up is a twice a week mask that I sleep in from GlamGlow. I have talked about this before because I have been using this for almost two years! It just does the trick and has never broken me out. I put it on before bed or when I am on an airplane - it does the trick!

Second is my daily moisturizer right now. I sometimes use this one from Philosophy during the day, but I honestly found that if I use this Kate Somerville exfolliant/moistuizor. I didn’t like using it day and night in the summer but since winter has come I have skipped out on Philosophy for something a bit stronger.

3. Face Wash

My face wash is kind of always on rotation - I know that is bad, but what I am using now is the African Black Soap mentioned in my last post or if I am traveling this one from Glo. I also spoke about the face that I use a little face mitt with my cleanser. I just feel like it does a better job than my fingers and I don’t like using my Clarisonic everyday!

4. The Extras

I like to start and finish my skincare routine with a little spray of my rose water. I think it is a big part in why I feel so glowy and it has some good properties for fighting bacteria also! Finally I mentioned above, but head to my last post to hear about how I manage bad acne flare ups!

How I cleared my Cystic Acne Quick

Eat Your Font Out.png

Hi guys! I have two really exciting skincare posts coming up and I asked you all on Instagram what you wanted to see first and the vote was reallllly close, but this post won!

About three weeks ago I had my second round of cystic acne breakouts. I have no idea what caused them (maybe diet change?) but they were big and really painful! I was all over the internet searching what could cause them and how the hell to get rid of them and I found some things that worked and some things that really did NOT help! I hope this gives you guys a good starting place to help clear up some spots you may have as well!

What Worked:

So I had three main things that really did wonders for me:

  1. Facial at Mooi Studio: you guys have heard me talk about them a lot and it is because I find myself in there almost every single week! If you don’t live in Colorado I wanted to still give you a breakdown of what they did so you can ask you're skincare guru for something similar: Retinal Detox facial which helped fight bacteria on my face, a good clean up of any clogged pores with extraction, a light peel and a good three day face wash system which included pure Vitamin C serum and a light day moisturizer.

  2. African Black Soap: I bought mine from amazon here after a recommendation from a friend. This soap is great for treatment even after spots are gone and leave my face feel sooooo clean! I recommend getting something like this little face mitt so you don’t go through 100 washcloths every week since you want to use it with a cloth and not directly on your hands. - p.s. a 1lb block is PLENTY

  3. Skipping Makeup and Extra Jazz: I can’t stress this one enough. The only thing that touched my face for a week after my facial was Vitamin C serum (like this one), Black Soap and water. I truly think this helped everything get a breather and dry out when it needed to. I am not oily to begin with so resisting even moisturizer was hard for me but it really help my skin just detox!

What Didn’t Work:

  1. Tee Tree Oil: For a few reasons here…. first I bought this one which if you just clicked on it you know it is ESSENTIAL OIL not a face oil - bad moment. But when I finally got the right one I felt like it was better for little spots and not Cystic Acne like I had. I don’t know this was recommended a lot but it did nothing for me.

  2. A spot treatment: Again my face was way past putting on a little spot treatment, but I will say when I have little breakouts this one is my go-to

  3. Hot Wash cloth: Actually made my spots HURT SO BAD. I could be sensitive but I know this is supposed to open pores and let me tell you mine were not having it.

  4. Freaking out: Ok silly I know but I had a serious meltdown moment and let me tell you guys stress causes a lot of these bad boys, so to the best of you're ability please…. go get a facial drink LOTS OF WATER sit back and let your face just have a moment.

I hope you guys found this helpful! Next week I am going to be sharing my current skincare routine that I have been using since this episode and I am obsessed. It is perfect for keeping my skin under wraps and super moisturized. So stay tuned xo

Winter Essentials 2018

photo 3-min.jpeg

My winter essentials are pretty basic and don't usually change from year to year so I thought I would share them with you all! I really want to know what you guys want to see more of from me this year so make sure to tell me on Instagram (@emmawlker)

1. A Good Read

For me this is usually some sort of "trashy" non-fiction book or the latest issue of vogue... two extremes I know haha. I actually just finished "psychos" and I loved it - I wish I read the first one in the series first! As for the magazine I found that if you get a yearly subscription you can actually save a lot of money - this is the one I signed up for here. (comes out. to a $1 a magazine!!)

2. A Really Yummy Candle

This one is my current favorite. I found it at Meek Vintage - a really cool spot in Denver, but I also found it on the world wide web here. There is nothing better than lighting up a candle at night and reading or even cooking - I just find it cozy and relaxing.

3. A Favorite Pair of Shoes

Luckily it hasn't snowed a lot yet in Colorado so I still get to wear my current favorite shoes. They are by Something Navy and Nordstrom and come in four colors! (AND ARE ON SALE!) Every Winter I almost give up on the options of fashion and stick to what I love - there is something about an overcast morning and waking up to pick out an outfit that just doesn't mix.

4. Dainty Jewelry

For me this could be a year round essential but especially in the Winter when I am layering sweaters and jackets any bulky jewelry just doesn't cut it for me. I think my current "signature" jewelry is a gold choker and a few rings. My two favorite checkers are from Midori Linea and Forever 21 (this came in a pack and has actually held up really well!)

5. MOISTURIZE

Last but not least my skin is SO DRY in the winter. I really rely on moisturizer to keep it alive. My favorite products right now are the in shower body lotion from Jergens (this is not sponsored I love this product!) because I am lazy and this is amazing and the coconut smells so yummy. I also love my glamglow mask - I put it on before bed a few nights a week and it is a lifesaver!

I hope you guys enjoyed this post - I love that I had an idea and I just did it I miss those days of blogging!
